using the AVI option

I'm trying to download footage using a sony dcr pc330. I'm using the USB port. However I want to using the AVI option to improve the quality, but it isn't there, can anyone suggest why...thanks
 
The option is only there when you use a firewire/iLink connection, which you
should be using with your camcorder.

Hello there
You need an iLink cable and card. iLink = Firewire. USB is not suitable for
downloading DV-AVI
