Using System Restore

If I were to use System Restore I'd first select "Restore my computer to an
earlier time."
SR then displays some earlier event as the restore point. If I click next,
is SR going to restore the system to the point just AFTER the restore point
or just BEFORE the restore point?
For instance, I just installed Office SP2 which took hours to download. If
I use SR and that installation is the resore point, will I lose Office SP2 or
everything that happened AFTER I installed SP2?

If Install of Office SP2 is a restore point, you will lose everything after
that point. you will not lose the Office SP2 update.

Hi John,

The automatic creation of restore points are performed before a specific
event. In this case the installation of Office SP2. Reverting to that
restore point would put the system back as it was *before* Office SP2
was installed. And remember, only monitored file and folder types would
be reverted.

Thanks, I think. I'm a fairly new user. I am unable to find "monitored
file" in the glossary. Is the SP2 revision a monitored file?
Back to the essence of my original question- if I run SR with SP2 as the
restore point, will I lose SP2?

Never mind. I re-read your answer and I see I will lose SP2.

What is a monitored file?
