Using RW Cd Drive for Backup location

H

Hodgers

I have recently upgraded from Win98 to WinXP. In Win98 I
was using the "D:" Drive (a RW CD drive)to write the
backup to.

When trying to configure the backup using WinXP, an error
message telling me I dont have access to the D: Drive and
that it is not a valid path is displayed.

I am still able to drag and drop to the D: drive and so
am not sure why the Backup process is not allowing me to
use the D: drive for the backup routine.

Any help would be appreciated

The XP backup utility does not support backing up directly to CD unless you
have packet writing software such as the Drag to Disk or Direct CD component
of Easy CD Creator installed, www.roxio.com or the InCD component of Nero
installed, www.nero.com. Please see the websites for version and drive
compatibility.

Without packet writing software installed on your system, something that is
not supported by XP's built-in CD burning function, you must backup to your
hard drive and then copy the file to the CD.

Thanks Michael, I had been backing up to the HDD and
copying it to the CD, however, now I know why I had to do
this.

Thanks again

If I remember correctly, you can not use the CD drive for windows
backup. You need to specify a folder on your hard drive, then you can
burn that to a cd.

Gosh, on my XP I can burn selected files to my CD burner, but
I don't know any convenient way to do backup that way......
I'd need several CDs and I don't know a way to arrange for it
to "ask for next CD......."
