(Just found this Newsgroup. The subject has probably been kicked to death
here already. Sorry!)

Just after d/l the latest 'security' update from MS I read an article
describing what the WGA program is all about. Jeez...

So I d/l RemoveWGA and ran it. It just said
"... not active in your system".

What does that mean? I know it's there because it installed itself.
Does it mean I checked out OK and WGA has removed itself?

Or does it mean MS have twigged on to RemoveWGA and have countered it?

I just want the WGA out of here...

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you are running a genuine version of Windows XP, you will not
see WGA notifications. Once installed, WGA Notifications becomes
a permanent part of user's Windows XP system, and cannot be uninstalled
despite third-party claims to the contrary.

If you are running a genuine version of Windows XP,...

I am. But what about the crafty internet connections that the WGA makes to
MS?

I am extremely angry that MS has installed such a program in the guise of
a 'Security' update. What a sneaky and underhand thing to do. Terrible.

(Fortunately, I had taken a full backup of the installation so that I
can restore to a pre-WGA state.)

Consequently, I shall no longer trust MS for any such thing, and am moving
to abandon Windows altogether so as to concentrate on using LINUX.

Yours in disgust,

Bye and be happy !

Well isn't that just peachy ... permanent spyware in your OS!

Many thanks for various replies; much appreciated.

But I still don't know what RemoveWGA 1.1 was trying to tell me by saying
"... not active on your system"!

(Will be away for a while so will not be listening in here for the time
being.)

If it can't be un-installed, what does this mean?

quote: "For customers who choose not to install the updated package,
and wish to remove an installed previous version, Microsoft has made
available a set of instructions for removing previous versions of WGA
Notifications from their PCs. "

Walt

It was for previous versions.

I *think* he may have been referring to the question of *impossibility of
removal*-- i.e., if previous versions *can* be removed, then presumably so
can the present one, unless, of course, the statement only refers to
versions previous to the one current when the text was written. Perhaps one
might consider it semantic.

Well I'm selling a fix for something very annoying if you wish to get
rid of it, contact me. For $30.00 U.S. Dollars, through PayPal, I am
selling a program in which can Fix and Scan your system for the XP
Genuine Message problem. If you do have this problem and you wish to
remove it but do not know how, look no further I can fix that. If you
leave it on your system it will prevent you from being able to receive
updates, slows down system performance, and causes you to be open to
future viruses and on top of that, really bugs you with rediculous
Pop-ups! (very annoying). If you are getting the same pop ups as the
images below then this program is for you.

WPAGenuineRemover v1.00. - Only $30.00 dollars.

email me: (e-mail address removed) if your interested.
