Using Pointer Advances Slide

I'm learning to use the new 2007 PowerPoint. Generally like it better than
the old one. But there is one annoying aspect I can't seem to figure out.
During a show, I can use ctrl-P to change the cursor arrow into a pen to
mark up the slide. That's great. But to do so I have to left click on the
mouse, and that automatically advances to the next slide when I release it.
How can I turn off the left-click-advance feature? There are plenty of
other ways to advance. Or maybe I'm just missing something!
