Using PNG-icons in Vista?

I'm all new to Vista and wondering - can I use PNG-files as icons without
any external programs installed?

Thats the program I saw and assumed, thought it was native.

Hi Andreas,

Sorry, PNG files will need to be converted to ICO files first. The
most common size in Vista is a 256 x 256 bit ICO file.

Actually a properly constructed icon file is multiple icons embedded in one ico file.
16x16
32x32
48x48
64x64
and so on.
