png's and ie7

I discovered an interesting problem with Vista and IE7. IE7 will not display
png graphics at all, I get a little red x on pages with png's. I could not
find a fix anywhere for this issue. The png's do display properly in windows
photo gallery and other apps, but nothing for IE7. Anyway I reinstall Vista
and that fixed the issue, but of course that was not the fix I wanted.
Anyone have any ideas? In case this should happen again or to someone else.

Same problem, same "fix."

(It's not a fix.)
I had previously verified:
Registry entries and file associations for .PNG files to be correct,
including IE7 Content Type entries. They were all correct.

I had difficulty with installing Flash Player prior to this problem. Now,
both work fine.
(So far.)

Anyone have any ideas?

Verifying the "Content Type" and MIME settings for .png would be a good idea.

In Command Prompt (which you should run as administrator), type

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\pngfilt.dll

Press Enter on you keyboard. You'll see a confirmation that pngfilt.dll
(the IE PNG plugin image decoder) has been successfully registered.
