using multiple templates in a single document

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to use multiple templates in a
single document?

Basically I am making 6 differenet templates files but I
want to be able to select which template I use on each
page and also when I add another page to the document I
want to be able to choose which template I apply to it.

If anyone knows how to do this please let me know as it
will be greatly appreciated.

cheers

malky

A single document can be based on only a single template. You can have
different formatting in separate sections.

Also, look into AutoText. You may want to store everything in a single
template's AutoText.

Hi Malky,

What kinds of things would you want to do differently on
the different pages? Different formatting? Then you could
set up sets of styles, all in the one template.

Another approach might be to use an IncludeText field (as
in insert/file with a link) to bring in things from
different documents (or templates). If you use section
breaks you can even keep margins, headers/footers...

It's hard to give you a really good answer without
understanding exactly what you need to accomplish.

I am having a similar problem. I want to set up a 'shell' document that has three or four different types of pages - the margins are different, there are headers on some and not or different on others, the font changes. I could do a multiple page template using section breaks but then the user has to insert the text carefully between the section breaks. I can do this but the user is new to Word and I don't want to spook her. From what I can tell of styles, I'm not sure you can use them to set all four margins, can you? I didn't see much help in help.

Different styles (perhaps based upon one another) can have different
"indents" but not different margins. Margins are section formatting; indents
are paragraph formatting. To the user they seem much the same. You can
simulate different margins on the first page using textboxes in the first
page header/footer.

Headers are section formatting. Each section can have up to three different
headers: one for the first page only, one for odd pages, and one for even
pages. If you use StyleRef fields and IF fields you can have a single header
that looks different on every page in a 100 page document!

What, precisely, are you trying to accomplish? Which version of Word are you
using?

Hi,

You may want to look at <URL:

Sorry, didn't realize my info was skimpy. I am trying to set up a Report
template. The first page is the cover; the second page is the title page;
the third is the table of contents; the rest are the report. All three of
these pages have different margins and different headers/footers. From page
4 on, everything stays the same. The user is coming (kicking and screaming)
from WordPerfect, where she insists this is easy to do. We are using Word
XP. Like I said, I can set up the template with section breaks but then she
will have to keep the show/hide button on (gasp) to see where they are and
will have to make sure she's typing in the right section. If that is the
only way, then so be it...
