Using .leftside in style.css

I am trying to apply a different style to my leftside
navigation bar. To do this I would like to use
the .leftside style in my style.css file but can only seem
to apply the a:XXXXX to the entire page.

Can someone help me delineate an element as using
the .leftside style?
