Using Emulator: Hard Reset, Soft Reset, Turn Off

I am using the emulator (Pocket PC 2002 emulator) in VS .Net 2003.
Does any body know what is the difference between the following? And
when should I use each of the following?
- Emulator > Hard Reset vs Soft Reset
- Emultor > Soft Reset vs Emulator Shut Down > Turn off Emulator
