Using Crossover Cable Between two computers

I have a laptop and a desktop, both running WINDOWS XP.

When I connect both machines with a crossover cable, I
can see both machines.
i.e I can see the drives of the desktop on my laptop, and
I can see the drives of the laptop on my desktop.

However the machines does not allow me to tranfer files
between the machines.

When requested for a logon/password, I use "GUEST"

The groups, domains, IP address, etc are all configured.

Any suggestions

I'm not sure that you can. You can only put files into a single common folder, I think, which all computers can see
I may be wrong, though

Run the Network Setup Wizard on each computer to fully enable file
sharing. That's usually all that's necessary:

If you've explicitly defined a password for the Guest account, enter
that password at the prompt.
