Using Avast vs. Norton, AVG, etc.

Grrrrrrr ... WinMail will no longer open. Message pop-up says junk filtering
issue, disk full (NOT!), and 2nd pop-up says MSOE can't initialize.

2 things:

a) Some of the Forum Leaders have written they recommend Avast for Anti-Virus.

Never heard of it. Went to its web site and see where it is free. Hmmm.

Avast *preferred* over AVG ???? I haven't liked or used a Norton product in
years.

b) Still experiencing WinMail opening problem. Super annoying. Reading all
the posts, but over my head. Am new to PC; from AppleWorld where I will say
I just didn't have this issues. But I like Vista and my huge, beautiful HP
and hope I can fix this. Actually, must fix.

Can someone, anyone, walk me thru this "like I am a 4-year-old" ? (from a
movie).

Need ya help. My football team is #1 in the country, my player won the
Heisman and this southern girl is otherwise happy !!!

Need your babysteps help to save my e-mail, and Thanks!

I like Avast even better than AVG....I have been using it about a year and
it has given my no problem at all.

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection, it may be causing the problem, and even Symantec says
it's not necessary:

<QP>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

Avast is not a Norton product. They are as much alike as the weather in
Louisiana and Antarctica. For what it is worth, the Avast company is in the
Czech Republic. That does not mean anything except that it is not Norton or
Symantec. I definitely had problems (multiple) using the Norton AV but no
problems with Avast.

Can you use the online email service that your ISP provides? You should be
able to do that until you have WinMail working. If nothing else, try:

You can send me a message if you want to. Note that I am Gate at
