Using ASR to recover system files and OS booting

I have run into a real nightmare recently. I tried to
install musicmatch 8.2 and all seemed to go well. At the
end of the install I was told that the system must
reboot. I hit OK and BAM I got a windows system file
critical error message stating that the original versions
of critical windows system files had been replaced by
unrecognized versions and that I must insert my original
XP PRO cd to replace the files in question. I did this
and then I got numerous messages saying that the disk I
inserted into the CD ROM bay is not the correct disk.
(Which it was) I had to hit cancel to get out of the
insistent windows error message screen. I did a reboot
and then I was greeted with a non-booting OS. I used the
very XP disk that Windows XP had refused to accept to do
an emergency repair. Thank god it worked.
I am trying to create JUST a floppy boot system ASR disc
set without having to backup the entire C drive which
would be about 15 gigs of data. I have not been able to
find a way to accomplish this so far. I have hit up
Technet, knowlege base, and numerous Tech discussion
groups and have yet to find the solution to creating JUST
floppy ASR system restore disks without having to create
an entire C drive image or backup file on my hard drive.
If this happens again I would like to just be able to
insert the ASR FLOPPY DISC SET and be able to replace
only the files required and not restore the entire C
DRIVE! Am I missing something here or did Microsoft
forget to make this an option?
The really puzzling issue here is that I installed this
very program before with no problems on this very system
and now all of a sudden it is a major problem. I have
current AV and a strong firewall with router and NAT
enabled and I know my system is virus free.

One other thing I have experienced is unexplained instant
reboots with no errors while multi-tasking. I think this
could be a bug that MS knows about but hasn't addressed
or maybe I missed the fix as I have seen other posts
about the very same thing.
Any tech savy input on these issues or links to possible
solutions would be appreciated.
Please Send to me via email and thanks!

I appreciate your input Carey, but I have been there and
tried that. This will still require a full backup of non-
system files as it basically takes a snapshot of the
entire Partition that the Winxp directory is located on.
I just want to create the equivalent of an ERD so that
damaged WINDOWS ONLY system files and registry backups
can be restored without having to allocate enough disk
space for an entire image file as well.

The Windows XP installation CD is also a "startup disk" or ERD
and contains the tools necessary to perform repairs.
