Hello,

I am new to networking. I have 3 computers networked. Two of them use
windows XP home and the other one uses windows 98. All three can access the
internet and all three also can share files and a printer that is hooked up
to one of my XP machines. I have office 2000 installed on the computer that
is connected to the router. Is there a way that the other two computers can
use office 2000 without it being installed on each of the respective
machines? If so how do I do this?

No, it's technically impossible. It would be also against your licence
agreement, specifying you can install Office not more than a computer and a
laptop (as far as I recall).

Two things to try. That Win98 computer might put a wrench in the works:

Experiment with the "net use" command to mount the remote computer's
drive on to a local computer. Try running the application from the
mounted drive.

Use Help and Support to find more info on net use, but your command line
to mount the remote drive could look something like this:

c:> net use <UnusedLocalDriveLetter>: \\<RemoteComputerName>\c$
<password> /user:<username> /persistent:<yesorno>

If connecting to the Win98 computer, leave off the <password> and /user:
parts.

This works for simple software, but Office is spread out all over
Windows and you might have some trouble.

Oh..I think XP Home has Remote Desktop client (Start/All
programs/Accessories/Communication/Remote Desktop Connection). You can
download the client software from:
http://tinyurl.com/e1wq
for the Win98 machine.

Make sure to turn on Remote Desktop in System Properties.
