Hi
I have created an Access database using Access 2007 that I would like to use
on another computer that does not have Access 2007 installed, I would like in
a perfect world to convert the database into an exe file but having used
access for years and over several versions and I now no that it is generally
not possible. I also know that it is possible to run a runtime version of
Access which may be perfect, but where would I get one or how do I create
one? Is there away of installing only the runtime version ?

Hi, Christopher.

In a perfect world, you'd know that Microsoft Office 2007 Beta 2 is intended
for evaluation purposes only, so other Microsoft products that might
interact with the future release of this version haven't been released yet,
either.

In a perfect world, you'd know that the Access Runtime version (and the
unlimited license to distribute the Runtime) comes with the Office
Developers Edition (or whatever name Microsoft calls it for that version of
Office -- it's currently Access Developer Extensions (ADE), which comes with
some versions of Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO) 2005).

In a perfect world, you'd convert your Access 2007 database file to an
earlier version of Access, and use the ADE to create an installation of the
Access 2003 Runtime version, and there wouldn't be any incompatibility
problems.

In a perfect world, you'd find that having purchased VSTO 2005 at $799
qualifies you for a free upgrade to VSTO 2007, because VSTO 2005 is
incompatible with Access 2007.

In a perfect world, we'd take our favorite pets to work with us every day.

We don't live in a perfect world.

HTH.

I'm not aware of any public announcement about developer tools for Access
2007. Historically, though, the developer tools were not included in the
public Beta's of Office 2002 or Office 2003. In other words, if the pattern
of the last two public Beta's is repeated, then I expect the developer tools
will not be publicly available until final product release.
