Using a MIC in Windows XP

I am trying to use a mic on my pc. When I check the properties box it
indicates that the MIC Mute is checked. If I uncheck the Mute box and
close the dialog box and go back in the Mute Box is Checked again.

This is driving me nuts. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check for updated drivers for your sound card.
