Using a Local Port instead of Standard TCP/IP in Cluster

T

Tim Schoch

Is there a way to add the "Local Port" in print cluster
port types? I have LPR and Standard TCP/IP, but i would
like the local port option also..

ThankS!

My apology in advance for this incorrect information.

There is a Port Monitor that is included in the Server 2003 Resource kit
that will allow printing to file and redirected "Local Ports" but not LPT
and COM ports are not supported.

a.. Clusfileport.dll: Cluster Print File Port

here's the resource kit.

I'm running a Win2K Cluster, will this fix work on 2000
also?

Yes
Concepts
Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 include the ability to connect to
devices that can only connect directly to a print server. Each also includes
the ability to print to a file or redirect print jobs. These functions are
not available from a print server within a Windows 2000 or Windows Server
2003 cluster; however, these functions are available in Windows NT Service
Pack 3 clusters. This functionality was dropped due to changes in the port
monitor interfaces. ClusFilePort restores these printing functions for
clustered print servers in Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003
