using a gaming console with windows xp media center edition 2004

I have noticed that with the factory setting it is relativly imposible to
play video games on a console because of the lag between the gaming system
and the pc. Is there a way that I can turn off the ability to rewind, so
there will no longer be an isue with the lag?
