using /3GB switch

I'm trying to setup my Windows XP to allow a serial
process to access more than the standard 2GB memory
limit. To do so I have used the /3GB switch in the
boot.ini file, but upon rebooting receive an error
regarding the switch. Microsoft Knowledge Base Article -
328269 describes my problem in detail. My question is
does anyone know if the fix for NTLDR been made available
and if so where?

I tried calling Microsoft, but the WORM virus crisis has
made help unavailable for now.
