Had to reinstall clean copy of XP. Directory still contains my old username
that was administrator and password protected. I created a new username but
would like to go into docs and settings and retrieve some information saved
in the Applications area. Explorer will not allow me to open the file.
Can I create a new user with the exact username as the original?
How can I access infor?
Thanks, Tom

Tome,

If the files were ENCRYPTED and you did not backup the correct information -
*poof*, gone.
If the folder was just a private folder - done so by using NTFS
file/directory permissions, then you can still get to the files..

Hi

If you 'clean installed XP everything would have been deleted. Where was/is
the name of this folder that survived a 'clean' install?

It is located under Documents and Settings along with the new user account I
just created. I am particularily interested in getting to my Outlook
Contacts. I had even archived them the day before. But all were stored
under my older admin user account.

I am particularily interested in getting to my Outlook contacts. I recently
achived all the folders but fear that they too are in the old admin user
account.

Take ownership and copy them out. Outlook Express has an import function,
point it to the old file and it should be able to handle it for you once you
have access to the file.
