1.) in w2k pro ther were several type of uers types that one could set for
users (e.g. ..admin, backup, power user, etc.). in xp i only see 2 types
(admin & limited). why is there only 2?

2.) also in w2k one could share a drive or folder and limit the number of
users and also what users could access that share. i do not see this in xp.
is ti available somewhere in xp?

XP PRO defaults to Simple File Sharing (Same as HOME) and sharing is by
folder for everyone via Guest account.

To set trun it off and set it back to classic (W2K) use Local secuirty
polocy manager, Security Options,
Network access: Sharing and security model for locak accounts. Set to
Classic - local ...

With all Users Accounts set up on local machine (use Computer Manager, Local
Users and Groups) that is sharing out to a User on another machine ...,

Then go to shares and add Authorized Users to permissions, remove everyboby.
Change security as needed to be more granulatied?

i have xp pro...so where do i control this?

Control what? User permissions? In the Administrative Tools applet under
Computer Management, Local Users and Groups. For fine-grained operating
system permissions, use the Group Policy Editor (Run>gpedit.msc). Be
careful with the Policy Editor; it is possible to lock *yourself* out.
