Usernames not showing up.

I recently downloaded windows steadystate. It then restarted my computer for
an update about an hour or two later. It restarted, I got to the welcome
screen, and I couldn't see any usernames nor the turn-off button. I restarted
my computer, tried to log on in safe mode, and still no usernames. Could
someone possibly help me?

Try this:
Start > Run, type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) > OK. In the
users tab, click to check the box "Users must enter a user name and password
to use this computer". OK.

If you can get to the Welcome screen, hit the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys twice.
This should bring up the Logon to Windows dialog. See if you can enter a user
name and password. If you can logon, you might want to run System Restore to
undo that changes that were made by the update.

Good luck

I tried that, and it said that my account was disabled, and to see my system
administrator

See if you can log on with the built-in Administrator account. Enter
Administrator in the User Name box and a password if you configured one for this
account.

If you have Windows XP Home Edition installed on your computer, you'll have to
start the computer in Safe mode in order to logon with this account. Restart
your computer and keep hitting the F8 key until you see the Windows Advanced
Options menu. Use the up arrow to select Safe Mode.

Good luck

THis doesn't work on my XP machine. Safe mode get me more of the same - I
can't even go into the bios setup and reset the passwords through the
security settings. Anyone have any other ideas before I have the hard drive
scanned at my local service center?
