This is be something your network administrator would be
able to help you with.

its me testing active directory,

i wanted to know if this is an issue with winxp or win2003

No, it is not an issue with WinXP or Win2003, it is an
issue with your machine. Try it again with a clean installation
of WinXP.

See if http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918495 helps you out. It's a
more current userinit and might be what's causing your issue.

A third of the advice here is system restore and the other third is
reload Windows.

If you don't know the answer, just don't post.

Sometimes reloading the OS is the only answer.

P.S. Of what use is ***your*** reply to the OP?

I just cannot fathom why someone who would claim to be MVP would not
try and troubleshoot this very simple problem? MVP is a BS moniker
that means jack squat. The OP's issue is well documented in the KB, as
an MVP, you SHOULD have looked there first.

I'm always willing to learn. What KB are you thinking of that
is relevant to the OP's problem?

T

Looks impressive - first time I've seen this one. Now let's see
if it resolves the OP's problem - he's been strangely silent.

It's within the realm of his problem but who knows. It's possible the
OP doesn't know how to request the hotfix from MS but hopefully they
got it.

I don't disagree and I am not trying to pick on you, personally.
The reload windows advice is thrown around rather flippantly.

It's not a task most of us look forward to and is a drastic step.

Maybe the person with the problem will pause and try to find another
answer.

Maybe

Yes, of course. However, if Thee Chicago Wolf's primary
aim had been to assist the OP then he would have quoted
this KB article number immediately. This is not the way it
happened: he first took a shot at me as an MVP (which I
can take), and only in his later reply did he come to the OP's
rescue.

I am sometimes faced with problems that I have never
encountered before. In these situations I weigh up the
time it might take to fix the problem, the likelyhood of
success and the time it would take to rebuild or reload
from an image. I often restore a recent backup copy of
the registry, which has saved me countless hours in the past.
If no image or backup is available then a reload is in many
cases a very effective way to fix a problem.

In his post the OP used some "cute" language ("any idea
as to wuts goin on") which suggests that he was just
dabbling with his server. If you gauge my initial response
as "flippant" then I'd say that it matches the OP's post.

It never appeared on my newsreader (which is not the first
time this has happened). If I had seen it then I would not have
asked you for it. If this is the case the first para of my reply
to WaIIy is obviously completely wrong and I apologise for
the conclusions I drew in it.
