User??

I have read several sites for months now and have almost
concluded that in my haste to get up and running (coming
direct from W98, XP being foreign to me); I think I set
up my computer as "owner" being the user, instead of my
name. I haven't been able to confirm this for certain in
all my reading. Can anybody tell me how I can determine
this??? In Windows Explorer, under Owner I have all the
standard folders. I also have the mirrored My Documents
(My Name Documents) folder, since I set my name up as the
administrator. However, the only folder under My Name is
that one folder; no other folders are under My Name. I
now realize I should not have Owner as a user. Hopefully
I have explained this so someone can advise. Anybody? I
am the only user/administrator of this computer.

Sorry, I don't quite follow.. Where, exactly, do you mean that you have set your computer to 'owner' as being the 'user'?
When you log on, from a fresh start, what is the name that you click on to log on to your pc?? User? Owner?
What/who is listed in User Accounts?
to check this go to Start>control panel>user accounts. From there, you can change the account name, if that's what you want to do.
when you say , 'In windows Explorer , under owner'... I don't find this in my explorer.
I have, among other things, 'explore all users, or open all users.

You used your name for the administrator account, which is a good thing.

From yopur desk top, right click, 'My computer', click properties, then click the 'advanced tab', go to the second section..user profiles, and click settings. That will show you exactly who you have set as users.

I'm not sure what it is you want to do, but if you want to change the name you ahve selected for your user account,, you can do that, however, once you do you might not be able to access your files, because of the name change. To do this, read this link.

Thank you for your response. I understand what you are
saying. I don't log on at all. I set my computer up so
I don't have to log on. It boots right up to the
desktop. You probably don't have Owner because you
deleted it and set your computer up correct with your
name unlike me.

Under Documents and Settings, I have the following
folders, All users, Default User, Local Service Network
Service and Owner. (default, local & network are hidden
folders). I believe the Owner Folder should have been
the MyNameFolder. Then, as I stated, I have a duplicate
(mirror) MyNameDocuments folder at the bottom of the
Windows Explorer directory (right above MyNetworkPlaces).
This feature, (having two MyDocuments folders)as I
understand it, is normal and by design in XP.

I have changed my name under User Accounts (me being the
only User and Administrator) several times to test this
and try to figure it out. It will change the name under
User Accounts and change the name of the duplicate
(mirror) MyNameDocuments folder at the bottom of
Explorer. I can still access all my files fine. It
doesn't seem to do anything except change the name in
these two places. This is why I think I am really logged
in and working under Owner and not my name.

The actual path on the MyNameDocuments folder at the
bottom of Explorer is c:\Documents and
Settings\Owner\MyDocuments (the same path as the other
MyDocuments folder at the top of Explorer) even though
MyName is shown when I view the folder in Explorer. I
don't know how to explain it so someone can understand
it. In a nutsehell, I have two MyDocuments Folders,
which is normal, but one is called MyDocuments and one is
called MyNameDocuments. Is this normal?

I am computer literate, but for some reason I cannot
grasp Multiple Users in XP. I think it would be simplier
if there actually were multiple users, but I am the only
user. :(
