User Settings Missing

Windows XP was not working for me, so i finally had to
repair missing files from the windows xp cd-rom, and now
it works, but my previous users are missing. is there
anyway to get back my old user settings (items on my
desktop, favorites in IE, etc...)? Please help, its been
a hell of a weekend for me and my comp.

Hi Ben,

Check for remnants under the old user profile folders. If you reinstalled
you will not be able to logon to the old profiles, but you should be able to
recover data files from them. Look under C:\Documents and Settings at the
user profiles.

Hi,

Reread what I wrote: "If you reinstalled you will not be able to logon to
the old profiles". All you can do is recover data, favorites, etc. and copy
them to one of the new profiles. You will not be able to regain access to
the old profiles, as the sid's (secure id's) no longer match the system.

oh, alirght, i get it, just copy the files from the old
user to the new. i'll try that, thanks alot. you may have
saved the day.

Sorry there is no better answer for you, but this is one of the downsides to
using a secure system.
