User rights

I have set up all the family with limited user rights. I
have a seperate account for administration (administrator).
For some reason when trying to play a game (CD ROM) using
limited accounts, the game will not load up and a "you
need administrator rights message" comes up. The strange
thing is this never used to happen but does now. I have
had to change all accounts to administrator as an interim
measure, until I find out what has gone wrong?

Can anyone help please?

Regards.

Andy.

Andy,

I've noticed that some poorly written software, especially games, will
insist on admin rights. Others work fine as limited users.

The game may be trying to right to protected parts of the registry or to
system folders on the drive.

Are you saying that this specific game used to work fine without admin
rights?

Programs that were not designed specifically for Windows XP may not all run properly under Limited Accounts on Windows XP home edition. There is no medium ground between Admin and limited. For full functionality you will need to set accounts to Admin level.
