Hi there,

We have a couple of public computers running on Windows XP.I'm wondering how
to move the whole user profiles to other location instead of C:\Documents
and Settings, for example, D:\Documents and Settings. They are public
computers, and just wanna move the whole directory to D:\, how to do that?

You can easily move the My Documents folder to a different drive [or the
user can] by selecting My Documents, right click to open properties and then
select move. According to the link below it may be possible to move the
whole profile folder. Note that MS does not support such situations which
means that if problem arise don't call them. --- Steve

I just try searches for different combinations of what I would consider key
words trying to use the minimum amount of words. Sometimes it takes a while
and then I usually bookmark things I find helpful in categories [Group
Policy, networking, PKI, auditing, etc] because sometimes I can not seem to
find them again! I also read results of searches that at first may not look
like the solution as they often do have pertinent information or maybe links
within the article have what I am looking for. No magic used here. Glad the

guys can find such answer on support.microsoft.com, but usually I
cannot.

To be honest - I use Google and WebFerret more than I use the Microsoft
Search to find answers. It will come up with answers at Microsoft as well
as where other people found and posted about those answers.

The trick is not to get locked down in any certain word or phrase - to use
synonyms unless the word or phrase is part of an error.. even then, it is
sometimes useful to leave out large chunks of the error phrasing.

On this subject I was recently thinking about the possibility of setting-up a
network with all profiles on the server. Advantage over local profiles being
that all mission-critical settings and data are on the server.

I don't fancy the roaming-profile approach because of the extended
logon-times it causes. For a fixed computer, having the profile reside on the
server would seem a more sensible approach. Any thoughts about the
feasibility of this?

For an Active Directory domain you can use redirected folders to do much of
what network profiles can do without the lag in logon. The links below

Have you looking into ADMT (Active Directory Migration Tool) which would work
well for item 1 and 2?

Item 3 is easy. Once their exchange account is active on their machine, then
they can use Outlook's import features to import items from the .pst file
that contained the Outlook data before.

4. You're on your own, although you might be able to add a second account
(or at least a second profile) that will creat another .pst file for you.
Then you can do the same import process for the IMAP data.
