In NT Server you could reset a users password and you would not need to know
the old password. In windows 2000 when i click to reset a former employees
password, it requires the old password which I do not have. Is there any way
to get around this?

Where are you trying to reset the password? What MMC do you open to get
access to the user accounts?

I go to Administrative Tools>Active Dir Users and Computers>then Users. Then
i double click the user>account and select change the password at next log on.
