Two nights ago after having left my computer for a bit, I came back to find
it was hibernating. Upon starting it up again, I discovered the login screen
was gone. How can I login without it? And how can I get it back again?

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and enter your logon name and password. Once logged on go to Control Panel - User Accounts - Change the way users log on and log off.

Pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't bring up any log on blanks. In fact absolutely
nothing happens. And if I restart the machine it just comes back to the blue
screen with the Windows xp and color block logo and my cursor. Nothing else.
