User Defined Styles in Normal.dot

J

Joshua

Hi -
A coworker managed to save settings from a custom template such that
Normal.dot now contains a mess of custom styles - and regenerates with them
intact!

I have renamed and deleted Normal.dot and tried to regenerate it, but these
styles remain - and Word does not list them as "User Defined Styles", and I
can't delete them using Format>Styles or the Organizer!

I have also removed templates from the c:/program files.../office/startup
directory, as described on the MVPs site.

Do I have to go into the registry to fix this? How do I do that?

We are working in Word 2000 on Windows 98.

Thanks
Joshua

Are you sure these are user-defined? What are the names of some of them?

Word has umpteen built in styles - but you don't have to display them. Set
which styles you wish to display from the format > style dialog. You can
limit this to the styles in use if you wish.

Yes, they are custom styles - like "indent 1" and "numbered2" and other
names. I recognize them from my template development work!

They now appear every time Word is opened. How can I get rid of them?
Thanks,
Joshua

Do they appear if you start Word with the /a switch?
