Please advise best method for survivor's spouse to access Win 2000 Pro for
family records reviews.
 
1. take the hard drive out of the computer and install it in a second
computer (with Windows 2000 or XP Pro installed) as a second hard drive.
You can then access anything on the hard drive, although you may have to
"Take Ownership" in some cases if specific permissions have been set on
files or folders.

2. install Windows 2000 Pro again, but do NOT format the drive in the
process (leave the file system intact).
 
....Or reset the admin password, with any of about a
million utilities out there...
