I have a Pentium 4 -512 Ram -2.41 Ghz -WinXP Home PC. (Was XP Pro)
I backed up all the data and reformatted a hard drive for a friend.
Everything went smoothly. There were 2 user accounts, however, one was
password protected.
The data for the user account that wasn't password protected opens fine.
However, none of the data for the other user account will open (word
documents and .jpgs). They were burned to a CD. I can't copy them to the hard
drive, can't open them, and can't attach a file in email.
I tried password protecting her new user account with the same password
and tried to open a file. No luck.
I tried to take ownership as the Admin - (Take Ownership of the files and
folders. In Help and Support search on
Ownership or see this KB article:
HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=308421)
That didn't work either.
I tried to recover the files on a pc with XP Pro, but no luck.
Is there any way to recover the data?
