User Accounts

Hello,

I am having a problem with User Accounts. I have a new PC with WindowsXP
Media Center Edition.

During setup, of Windows I named the PC "DORIA_PC." Out of the box the User
Name was Compaq_Computer Administrator. I created a new administrator
account "Doria Maxey" logged off and logged back on as Doria Maxey and then
deleted the Compaq_Computer Adminstrator Account.

I followed the same proceedure with another PC about a year ago with no
difficulties, Now, when I go to Documents And Settings, I expected to see:

All Users, Defaullt User, Doria Maxey

What I see is All Users, Default User, Doria Maxey and Doria Maxey.DORIA_PC.

I tried to deleted Doria Maxey.DORIA_PC but got a message that it was an
vital folder for Windows to operate. I verified in Control Panel User
Accounts that there was in fact only one account named Doria Maxey.

Next I booted in Safe Mode, logged in as Administrator and deleted the the
Doria Maxey.DORIA_PC folder under documents and settings. The plain Doria
Maxey folder was still present and I shut down and rebooted again.

The PC booted up OK, but I could tell that all of my Doria Maxey settings
where messed up (e.g., desktop background, etc.)

To my great dismay I find that a folder Doria Maxey.DORIA_PC has been
recreated :-(

Have I done something wrong? I realize this is just a nit, but it bugs me
that I can't figure this out. Should I try to delete the plain Doria Maxey
folder and then try to rename the Doria Maxey.DORIA_PC as just Doria Maxey?

Thanks for the reply. I could probably do those steps successfully but
I was in a rush to get this computer back in the box and wrapped for
Christmas so I just deleted the "Doria Maxey" folder in Documents and
Settings.

This is the situation with the PC boxed and wrapped:

In normal boot mode I have one account named "Doria Maxey."

"Doria Maxey" is an administrator account administrator

In the Documents and Settings folder, I have "All Users", "Default
User", and "Doria Maxey.DORIA_PC

If I understand you correctly, when I get this thing back out of the
box, I need to:

1. Boot is Safe Mode and log on as Computer Administrator
2. Rename the Documents and Settings Folder "Doria Maxey.DORIA_PC" to
something else.
3. Delete the Account "Doria Maxey"
4. Create and Account named "Doria Maxey"
5. Log off the Computer Adminstrator account and log on as "Doria
Maxey"
6. Log off and log back on as Computer Administrator
7. Copy files from the renamed folder in step 2 the new "Doria Maxey"
folder.
8. Reboot

Question. It seems that this would result in losing all of the user
preferences that are currently in Doria Maxey.DORIA_PC profile. Isn't
there some feature that you can transfer user preferences? I am pretty
sure there is and if the process above is correct then I guess I just
need to save the preferences before step 1 and then import them into
the new profile after step 8.

Please confirm if I am on the right track here.

I have a very similar problem. Did these steps get you the results you were
