user accounts

One of my user account icons disappeared from the Welcome page. All files are
still intact. When I try to create a new user with the same name it says User
already exists, but the icon is gone. There's now way to click on that user.
How do I get the user name and icon to reappear?

I am using XP Home Edition and have the exact problem as Idlemons, i.e. login
disappeared in the Welcome page but the profile appears to be intact. The
links below don't seem to be useful to my situation. I cannot create the
same account in "User Accounts" or "control userpasswords2" either.

I suspect something went wrong when I changed that account from "Restricted
user" to "Standard user (Power Users Group)" inside "Group Membership" in
"control userpasswords2". It had an error message saying something like
there is no such security group. Now the account disappears from the Welcome
page, "User Accounts" and "contol userpasswords2"!

I really need to have that login account show up again. Please help!!
