user accounts dissappeared

On the Welcome Screen ALL users vanished. I by-passed the Screen and I
logged in as Administrator. The Files and Folders are there (with the proper
name), but the Users are not there (Right-Click on My Computer/Manage/...).
Nothing. Nada. I went in the registry, looked for them, nothing. I created
a New User, restarted, the same problem: no user(s) on welcome screen ...
I scanned my system, I looked for Pests with PestPatrol, I found a lot of
malicious code unrecognized by the very famous SpyBot & Ad-Aware. I deleted
everything, the system behaves the same. Other than this, it works like a
breeze.
Any ideas?

Me again: the Blue screen is there, The Welcome message salutes me, only on
the right side is nothing.
