User Account Password

One of the kids has messed around with the computer and
now each time the computer starts up windows XP prompts
us to choose a User Account and then a Password. Of
course, we have no idea what the password could be. How
can we get past this screen without a password or reset
the system?
 
boot to safe mode. the default system administrator account will become available as an option. logon to that account and then go into control panel, users, and reverse any changes that were made by the kids
