User account log off problem

When I log off (as opposed to switching users), instead
of going back to main log on screen my screen goes black
and the computer seems to be in some state of suspension.
It doesn't turn off, but I 'm not able to do anything. I
hold the power button in until the computer shuts
off,then I turn it back on. Does anyone know why this
would happen when a user logs off?
 
TOM, By default all progs should time out in 20 sec. You
can run REGEDIT which will also affect the shutdown. Now,
reload each prog until you find the culprit.
