Hello

After a "non destructive" systemrecovery my userprofile is no longer
accessible. Windows has
create a new user profile like myusername.000.
I want to know if there is a possibility to change the used profile from
myusername.000 to the original userprofile.

Thanks for help

Keep the new user profile. You do not say why you did a recovery but it's
possible there are problems within the old user account that helped to
percipitate the need for running recovery.

If the folder name for the new account bothers you, renaming won't help as
that only changes the "friendly" name shown for that user. The underlying
folder will keep the original name. Instead, create a new account. Log onto
it to create its folders in Documents and Settings. The folder name and log
on name for the user account will now match.

Grab the files and shortcuts that you need out of the old account and move
them to the new. If you run into any permission problems when moving and
copying those files (XP doesn't know the old you is the new you as well),
take ownership of the folders and files.

Thanks Sharon

The reason for the recovery was that I have installed a Cisco VPN Client.
After that Windows automatically restarts befor the logon screen. So I
decide to make the recovery.
I have no problems with the new foldername. The main problem is that all may
user settings e.g. office settings (Outlook,...) and design are lost.
Because it is no fun for me to make all new.

Moving all files from the original folder to the new folder doesn't help. I
have all my files but the settings are still lost.
So this is the reason why I try to tell windows to use my orgiginal profile
folder.

Have you thought about using FAST to transfer only settings?

I'm pretty sure that mail settings and passwords still have to be recreated
but it will move the bulk of the user preferences over to the new account.
