Used msconfig, now what?

I used msconfig and located a few programs that I do not want to run at
startup. They are located under the Services tag. Where do I go to fix
this? Two are remanants of programs I uninstalled, but the third is a
program I want to keep, I just don't want it to run on startup.

Are these located in the registry?

Actually, to stop things from loading at startup, go to the 'startup' tab,
not the services tab.
Just remove the check next to those you don't want running at startup. It
is unwise to stop services, it's an entirely different function. Services
operate on a dependency basis, some operations require specific services in
order to function.

The reasonI dod not use the startup tab is that these programs are not on the
startup tab. Also this would still leave the problem that I am running a
selective startup, not a normal startup.

Any other suggestions?

Probably. MSConfig tells you exactly where the programs/services are
being started from. Simply read what MSConfig tells you, and make the
adjustments to the indicated locations.

Probably. MSConfig tells you exactly where the programs/services are
being started from. Simply read what MSConfig tells you, and make the
adjustments to the indicated locations.

To remove disabled items completely from msconfig startup tab listing, do
Start>Run>Regedit - enter. Open
"HKEY_Local_Machine\software\Microsoft\SharedTools\MSCONFIG\Startupreg\.
Expanding the "startupreg" folder will show a listing of folders named after
items in the configuration utitlty. Deleting a folder will remove the item
from being displayed by msconfig (and will disable the msconfig reminder).
However only do so if you do n ot require the item to be launched at
startup.
