It is not clear what you copied and how. Your documents are unaffected by
problems with your word processor software. Copy the document files from the
laptop to the USB flash memory. Copy the files from the USB flash memory to
a suitable folder on the hard drive of your desktop PC e.g. My Documents..
Open the documents from Word.

If you have copied the files from the flash card to the desktop of your
desktop PC and the documents are not there or in a sub folder of your
desktop folder, you haven't copied them.

You cannot copy the word processor software in this manner. You must install
it from the original source disc.

I think we need a clearer statement of what applications are involved.
Microsoft Word (part of Microsoft Office) is a word processor. There is also
a word processor portion of Microsoft Works. If you are trying to open files
from a recent version of Works on an older version of Word, it is possible
that the necessary converters will not be available. The same will be true
if you're trying to open Word files in Works.

Or, if you have Word 2007 on one machine and an earlier version of Word on
the other, you will not be able to open .docx format files (from Word 2007)
in the earlier version until you download and install the Microsoft Office
Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...70-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en.
