Use Word 97 with dual monitors

I did a search on this subject and came up with a few suggestions, but they
didn't help me. Here's my problem...

I have just set up dual monitors and they work fine, in general. I can have
one PROGRAM open and running on the primary monitor and a different program
open and running separately on the secondary. This is nice, but what I
really want is to have one word '97 file open on one monitor and a different
word 97 file open and running on the other.

I've fooled around for hours trying to do this, but I can't get this to
work. BOTH the word files open WITHIN ONE FRAME and the second file can't be
moved outside of that frame to the second monitor. I can easily move the
whole word application from one monitor to the other one, but that's all I
can do.

Is there any way to open two word files and get them on separate monitors
using word '97? If not, is it possible to do this with later versions of
word? I'm a writer and it would really be helpful if I could do this.

Thanks in advance for your help.

My problem is solved. I opened two separate instances of the word '97
program. After opening the two desired word files, I was able to move them
from one monitor to the other--BUT only if they were in the "restore down"
size.

Cheers, Don.

I don't remember when the change was introduced, but certainly in Word 2007,
2003, XP and 2000, there's an option to either display all documents inside
one "frame" as you called it, or to display each document in the taskbar.
The latter option makes them independent for display purposes, although, if
you have a dialog box displayed in any open document, you can't access the
other documents until the dialog is closed (except for special dialogs, such
as Find/Replace). For separate control of the different documents, they
would need to be opened in different instances of Word, per se.

As a technical writer, my productivity was multiplied enormously when I went
to using two monitors. I usually have my laptop open, as well, giving me
three different screens to work with. If I ever go back to one monitor, it
will have to be at least 60 inches wide. ;-)
