I recently bought a Dell notebook with WinXP Pro, the
same as my desktop OS. I have a Linksys wireless network
setup which works well on both systems. My problem is on
the laptop. When I open the "Wireless Network Connection
Properties" dialog box, under the "Wireless Network" tab,
there is a box to be checked for "Use Windows to
configure my wireless network settings". I want this box
to be checked and to remain checked, which is what
happens with my desktop. However, on my laptop, for some
reason this box becomes automatically unchecked every
time that I log off and logf back on again. Since I am
using the same operating system, I can't figure out why
this would behave differently between the two machines.
Does anyone have an answer to this question? I can't get
a hold of anyone at Microsoft or at Dell who can help
me. Thanks!

A configuration program for your wireless network adapter could be
loading at startup and changing that setting.

The "Wireless Zero Configuration" service could be encountering errors
on startup. See if there are any relevant messages in Event Viewer.
To run it, click Start | Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance |
Administrative Tools | Event Viewer. For more information, see:

My laptop Win Xp with a d-link wireless card has its own
software and they recomend that that be unchecked and
disabling Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration service.
My card is a DWL-G650 but it could be different for yours.
