I'm a software developer and switching hands & pointing devices often helps
avoid RSI. Variety is good.
I just got a new MS Wireless Optical Mouse with IntelliPoint 5 for my
laptop. It works great, as does my old mouse which is plugged into another
USB slot. I haven't been able to figure out how to set up one for left hand
operation and the other for right. I'd like to have a mouse on each side of
the keyboard, both configured for the "proper" hand.
They show up fine in the Hardware tab of the Mouse Properties. Actually
there's a third. The touchpad is named "Microsoft PS/2 Port Mouse
(IntelliPoint)".
I'm happy with my desktop's pointing devices. I have a Microsoft mouse set
up for left hand operation on the left side of the keyboard, a Wacom
PenPartner on the right, and a brand new Logitech Marble Mouse trackball
also to the right and working fine right handed.
If you want an MS mouse left-handed and the Logitech trackball on the right,
here's the secret. First get the mouse working like you want it, then plug
in the trackball. (Win2000 recognized it as a trackball.) DO NOT install
the Logitech software, that just confuses Intellipoint. ;-) I wish I could
adjust the acceleration of the trackball -- it takes a little while to
scroll across 4 monitors. <g>
Thanks.
