use of home xp

had home xp installed in a cp that cp motherboard burned
out . have a new cp with win 98 and want to upgrade to
the home xp copy no longer in use. what is my status?? do
i need special instructions on how to install??

Assuming this was not an OEM version but a retail version of XP, simply
install it on the new system, when asked to activate, if you are unable to
do so over the Internet, choose activate by phone, tell the operator what
happened and the operator will give you a new activation code.

If this is an OEM disk, you'll need to purchase a new version of XP as OEM
versions are tied to their original hardware.

No. Boot windows 98
Insert the CD and run the compatibilty wizard.
Take heed of the findings, and if all is well,
reinsert the cd and initiate the installation.

The only hiccup is that you'll have to speak to Microsoft
concerning the activation. No Biggie.
