Use Excel 97 with windows XP ?

I've been using Excel 97 with Windows 98 for a number of
years with no problem and now would like to use it with
Windows XP on new computer.

When I try to print a bar chart (Excel 97 in Windows XP)
in which the bars are colored, according to the Legend,
although the bars show colored on the monitor, they are
printed only in black and white (grayscale) when the
chart is printed. I had no trouble like this with
Windows 98. I've checked the Print settings, for the
printer, which seem to be set ok but still no colored
chart. Does anyone have suggestion?

Is it possible to use Excel 97 or Word 97 (Office 97)
with Windows XP? Any upgrade recommended?

Thanks

No suggestions right now if you are sure about the printer settings.

Yes it is possible to use Office 97 on Windows XP.
Yes it is recommended to upgrade to Office 2003.

Yes it's possible to run Office 97 with Windows XP.

Any recommendation to upgrade should depend on what you need XL to do.
With the exception of fixing some statistical functions in XL03, there
are essentially no changes to worksheet function between XL97 and XL03.
XL03's VBA is somewhat improved over that of XL97. XL03's Help system
is, IMO, inferior to that of XL97.

XL03 has some bells and whistles that you may be interested in, but if
you're happy with XL97, and it's doing the job you need it to, why pay
to upgrade?

Excel 97 does work properly on my own machine with XP Home.

Have you tried File>PageSetup and then click on the Chart tab? On that
screen you'll see a box to check to print charts in color or B&W.

Good luck...
