Use EFS to encrypt offline files and folders

How do I use EFS to encrypt 'offline files and folders'. When I enable
encrypt offline files, its encrypts a container and gives me a shortcut on
the desktop to access the files in the container. When I examine the
properties of one of the files, it is not encrypted per se. Is it possible,
and would I want to, set EFS on for these files or is the container security
enough.

I found the link below with a response from a Microsoft employee that
indicates it is normal to not see the encryption attribute. If you want to
test that you can use certmgr.msc and go to your personal folder, find your
EFS certificate/private key, right click to select all tasks and select
export to export your EFS certificate AND private key to a password
protected .pfx file and select the option to delete the private key. Then
logoff and logon to see if you can access your offline files. You can then
import your certificate/private key when done. However I would only try such
with test files or files you can afford to lose as EFS can cause a user to
lose permanent access to their data files if not careful though offline
files are a bit different situation as there should be copies somewhere else
but always take precautions to backup your data files. --- Steve
