"Use atuomatic settings" is grayed out in Device Manager

Phil

In my latest XP-e SP2 build, the "Use atuomatic settings" is grayed out in
Device Manager on all devies, (COM Ports, Display adaptors etc).
I wish to set some IRQ etc settings for some devices manually. I have tried
building the image based on a Standard PC HAL rather than a ACPI PC.
What am I missing?

TIA
Phil

Phil,

I assumed you included "Device Manager" and "Administration Support Tools" components and resolved thier dependencies?
Also, make sure "Msxml 2.6" is in the configuration.

In case you still can't get it working, you have other options to set up device driver resources:
- use devcon command line tool: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;311272
- set up the setting on XP Pro/XPe manually and grab modified registry entries and integrate them into the image
- manually change appropriate inf files (like msports.inf, etc.)

Thanks KM,
I still have the issue with "Device Manager", "Administration Support
Tools", and "Msxml 2.6" components included.
Will look the other options...
Phil
Also, make sure

Phil,

I forgot to ask the obvious question - were you running the Device Manager under an account with the administrator privileges?
(e.g., Administrator account)

KM,
Thanks. Yes we are logging in as Administrator.
I do have "Use atuomatic settings" enabled on a few items in the list, such
as the Parallel Printer. Other items I expect to be able to change, such as
COM2 port does not have the "Use atuomatic settings" enabled.

I have now installed XP Pro on the same machine, and find the same
behaviour.
This is therefore not a XPe specific condition.
