USB2 Controller Problem

Hi all,

In Device Manager, the device "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller" is
idicated as not having the drivers installed.

After downloading DELL's chipset utility and identifying it as the 915G
chipset family with a 82801FB (ICH6) controller, I downloaded the drivers.

The files runs OK and I can pick the controller from the list. However, when
installing, I get the following error message:
"An error occured during the installation of this device. The installation
failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance."

I also get the same messge when using the Windows 2000 driver ich6usb.inf.

Does any one has a clue what this error message really means?
Is there another driver that can be used?

Thanks

Hi Kommok:

That error occurs when the wrong USB Controller driver is installed. Look
for the exact motherboard, then identify the right USB controller, download
the latest version and install it. Should work fine after this. Good luck.

Hi Pedro -
I have a Dell Optiplex GX1 and my USB ports suddenly stopped working. I
re-installed and have had the same problem as Kommack. Where can I find the
USB controller for my machine?

Perhaps it's the SP version?

SP3 has less functionality than SP4
