Ok, I might be in the wrong newsgroup, sorry if I am.

I have a brand new ATEC computer from Thailand (I'm there
to), when I got it, WinXPpro was installed. 3 weeks after
purchase the OS screwwed up and I formatted the HDD and
reinstalled with the same.

Since my reinstall I get the following errors:

"HI-SPEED USB Device Plugged into a non-HI-SPEED USB Hub"

This notebook comes with a USB2.0 hub and two ports.
Prior to my reinstall I did not receive this error.

I have attempted to update my computer with MS Auto
Update etc, but it is incredibly slow from over here. I
have also considered downloading the entire SP1a, but it
would take around 4 days of connect time to download the
130meg files.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the exact URL for
the HOTFIX concerned with this problem. Until such time
as I have a better Internet connection I can not take 4
days to download SP1a. And the Update website is too slow
as well.

Looking forward to hearing from you. If you have the URL,
please email it to me directly.

Thanks.

Simon

The first place to check is with the computer
manufacturer and their web site, etc, and see if they
have posted drivers for the USB 2.0 hub. It's very
likely that they had already loaded the drivers onto the
computer before you purchased it.

Hi, Simon.

Apart from your connect problem, I don't think you have one. If you plug a
USB 2.0 device into a USB 1.1 port, the operating system notifies you
because there is a performance difference between the two USB standards. The
high speed/low speed relates to the motherboard installation of your USB. It
should not affect the operation of any peripherals, printer, scanner, etc. I
got the same message when I first installed, now it never shows.

There will not, of course, be a hotfix for this.

Hope this helps,

Ed

The first place I would look is in the device manager and
see if it shows a USB "Enhanced Controller" Innstalled. I
would uninstall it and re-boot and re install it.

Without SP1 or SP1a, the enhanced controller will not be present. Nor will
it ever be, unless he has downloaded separate drivers from somewhere else!

I have 2 desktops and 1 laptop all of which have USB2.0. I built
them before SP1 came out. Dell, Toshiba and the third company do
not have drivers for USB2.0. I had to wait 2 months for SP1 appear.
And two of the three would not automatically load the drivers, I had to
manually load them. I must say they have been working perfectly since
then. I am not to happy with the manufacturers. How hard could it have
been to have the drivers on their sites? :-)
