hi guys,

i run xp, have just bought a flash stick and xp brings up a msg that it is
only running at usb1; how do i get it to run at usb2.

thanks

It also depends on the inbuilt USB adapter. Many older notebooks have only a
USB 1 adapter.

Does the computer have a USB 2 port. Older computers only had USB 1 or
1.1. The other item to consider is whether the cable connecting to the
port is USB 1 or USB 2.

Select Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Universal
Serial Bus Controllers, Generic USB Controller, right click and select
Properties.

Is that what the message really says? Or does it say something like:

This device can perform faster if it was connected to a high speed USB
2.0 device

Select Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager...

First make sure there are no ?s, Xs or !s in Device Manager (these
would be areas that need attention).

Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

If you do not see the word "Enhanced", that is the reason for the
informative message. You either need to update your USB driver
(probably) or your PC hardware is not compatible. My first guess is
the driver. If you just bought the USB device, I doubt there is
anything wrong with that. Try it on a computer that does show
Enhanced.

Here is a Microsoft article to help you understand.

Another option, check in the BIOS under the section for USB, there's
an Option for ECxx (enhanced controller) be sure it is enabled.

Most likely, you do not have the necessary drivers to have Enhanced
ports (an easy fix).
